Although born in Ontario, Canada, Jimmy went on to represent Northern Ireland with distinction, earning 73 international caps during a long and highly respected playing career.

At club level, he made over 600 senior appearances across the UK and overseas, but is best known for his time with Manchester United, where he played between 1974 and 1982. During that period he made 197 first-team appearances and was part of the side that famously lifted the FA Cup in 1977, defeating Liverpool at Wembley — one of the most iconic victories in the club’s history. His career also included spells with clubs such as Rangers, Sunderland, West Bromwich Albion and Raith Rovers, giving him a rare breadth of experience across British football.

Following his playing career, Jimmy moved into management, taking charge of Raith Rovers in 1990 and leading them to an extraordinary period of success, including a Scottish League Cup triumph and promotion to the Premier League. Today, however, he is equally well known for his work as an after-dinner and sporting speaker, where his stories from inside the Manchester United dressing room, combined with his humour, honesty and insight into elite football, make him a hugely popular and engaging presence at corporate events, sporting dinners and hospitality evenings.
