Former Scotland international Murdo MacLeod enjoyed a distinguished playing career at the highest level of the game, earning 20 caps for his country and representing Scotland at the 1990 FIFA World Cup Finals in Italy. A gifted midfielder with tremendous energy and vision, Murdo played alongside and against many of football’s biggest names during a career that spanned Scotland, England and Germany.
At club level, Murdo is best known for his successful years with Celtic, where he won multiple league and cup honours and became one of the most recognisable players of the era. He also enjoyed an excellent spell with Borussia Dortmund in Germany, winning both the German Cup and Super Cup, before later captaining Hibernian to League Cup success. Earlier in his career he made his breakthrough with Dumbarton, where he quickly established himself as one of Scotland’s brightest young talents.
Following his playing days, Murdo moved into coaching and management with Dumbarton, Partick Thistle and later Celtic as assistant manager under Wim Jansen during the memorable 1997/98 title-winning campaign. He has since remained a familiar face in Scottish football through his work in television, radio and newspaper media coverage.
