NIVEN RENNIE • AFTER DINNER SPEAKER
Niven Rennie is a highly respected former police officer, after dinner speaker and charity leader who has been entertaining audiences across Scotland for more than 20 years. A popular choice for sports dinners, Burns Suppers, awards nights and charity events, Niven combines humour, storytelling and sharp observations drawn from his policing career, his upbringing and, by his own admission, his complete lack of sporting talent.
Niven retired from the police in 2016 with the rank of Chief Superintendent before moving into the charity sector as CEO of a homeless charity. In 2018 he became Director of the multi award-winning Scottish Violence Reduction Unit and also serves as Chair of the UK charity The Hope Collective. In 2025 he co-founded Social Impact Scotland, an organisation focused on securing funding opportunities to help tackle Scotland’s social problems. He is also a Trustee of Ayrshire Hospice.
Alongside his professional career, Niven has built a strong reputation on the Scottish after dinner circuit, entertaining audiences at golf days, rugby functions, corporate events and community evenings throughout the country. His relaxed style, quick wit and wealth of real-life stories make him an engaging and memorable guest speaker for a wide variety of audiences.
A resident of Ayr, Niven lives just a mile from the famous Burns Cottage with his wife Sally and enjoys rugby, golf, cricket and amateur dramatics. His theatrical claim to fame came when he became the first person in the world to play Basil Fawlty on stage — although Sally insists very little acting was actually required!
