Willie Allan has been one of Scotland’s most respected and reliable after dinner speakers since first joining the speaking circuit in 1992. Renowned for his sharp observations, quick wit and what he describes as “disruption of expectation”, Willie has the rare ability to adapt effortlessly to audiences ranging from intimate club dinners to major corporate events. His natural warmth and relaxed delivery have made him a hugely popular choice across Scotland and beyond.
Originally from Dunfermline in the Kingdom of Fife, Willie enjoyed a distinguished thirty-two year career in education, including more than two decades as Principal Teacher of Physical Education at Buckhaven High School. Alongside teaching, he played thirteen seasons of rugby with Dunfermline RFC and also represented the North and Midlands. He later helped re-establish rugby within the school through the formation of the Buckhaven Sharks and Sharkettes, reflecting a lifelong passion for youth sport and mentoring.
A highly experienced host and compère, Willie is equally at home chairing an evening, acting as master of ceremonies or entertaining as the principal after dinner speaker. His stories, many drawn from his years in education, sport and family life in Fife, are delivered with excellent timing and a wonderfully authentic Scottish style. He is also a popular charity auctioneer whose lively and engaging approach regularly helps organisations raise significant sums at fundraising events.
Away from the speaking platform, Willie remains heavily involved in charitable work and youth development. He serves as an ambassador for SkillForce and as a Trustee of The Shoot Charitable Trust. In recognition of his outstanding contribution to youth rugby and charity work, Willie was awarded the MBE in 2017. A proud Fifer with a great affection for people and storytelling, Willie Allan continues to be one of the most entertaining and dependable personalities on the Scottish after dinner circuit.
